Do U.S. Intelligence Agencies Have a Political Agenda?

Despite the media frenzy over President Trump’s comments about U.S. intelligence following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this week, voters still think U.S intelligence agencies are doing a good job. However, they don’t deny that these agencies may be serving a larger agenda.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters think U.S. intelligence agencies have their own political agenda. Just as many (43%), though, think they generally perform impartially, but another 11% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on July 17-18, 2018 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
