Support for NATO Is Down

President Trump arrives in Brussels today for this year’s NATO summit meeting. At the top of Trump’s agenda is getting NATO allies to pay up for defense spending. Voters continue to say that the United States should not be the world’s policeman and fewer see the need for the organization’s existence.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 53% of Likely U.S. Voters have a favorable opinion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), including 22% who have a Very Favorable one. Thirty-one percent (31%) share an unfavorable view of NATO, but only eight percent (8%) have a Very Unfavorable view. Another 15% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
