Rasmussen Was Right - The American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) gathers today – May 18th, 2017 – for its 72nd annual conference in New Orleans. A lot of soul searching is expected following the most disastrous performance by pollsters in U.S. political history. We at Rasmussen Reports celebrate the dedication of the many member attendees in their continued efforts to advance – and now to fix - the field of public survey and public opinion research.

At Rasmussen Reports, we are in the business of public opinion surveying every day, so we understand the difficulties that face our profession. Our poll results are widely read, trusted and attentively followed by leading figures in business and politics and make national news daily. But like any successful enterprise, we have our critics. Some are fellow industry practitioners, but most are in the U.S. political media. Many of these critics share a partisan viewpoint and want it enforced. But accurate polling doesn’t work that way as any good researcher knows.
